Leo is a great movie about a 5th grade class with two special class pets. Unfortunately, the class’ fun teacher is pregnant, and she can’t continue teaching. Her sub is an old-fashioned teacher that makes nothing about the school year fun. Someone has to save them, but who would suspect an old class pet to cheer up the class and make the school year fun again? I loved the idea of this movie, and the execution is just as great. The storyline was very clear. Although it lacked a little excitement at some parts because the movie could get a little repetitive, every character had their own personality, which helped regain originality in some scenes.
The movie starts off with the teacher revealing to the kids that she wouldn’t be their teacher for the rest of the year. Everyone was sad, but once they discovered who their sub was, the students realized how miserable their last year of elementary school was going to go. This all changed when the teacher wanted someone to take home the class pet, and over the weekend, the lizard revealed it could talk. The lizard told the first kid who took him home that he could talk and his name is Leo, but only to that kid, but he says this to every kid who takes him home. This ends up backfiring, as you can see.
I would rate this movie an 8/10 because of its repetitiveness, although Leo makes up for this in many different ways, including how the plot is still clear. I would recommend this movie to kids 8+ because of some slight violence and some topics that could upset younger viewers.
