Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequal to The Lion King, which explains Simba’s father’s childhood. It also explains why Scar is named Scar, and how they became enemys. Even though this movie jumped between Rafiki and Simba’s kid in more real-time and the story, it was still very clear and easy to follow. I really enjoyed watching this movie even though it was long because of all of the action. I loved how there was always something interesting or dramatic going on that kept my attention, but not so much that I had an issue following the movie.

The movie begins with Simba (as an adult) with his wife, Nala, leaving Kiara, their kid, in their cave with Rafiki (the monkey), Pumbaa (the warthog), and Timon (the meerkat) during a storm. Kiara gets scared, so Rafiki starts to tell the story of Mufasa, her grandfather. As Rafiki tells the story, the storm goes on, but Kiara discovers that while the story is scary, it gave her family strength. (Most of the characters only make sense when you have watched the original Lion King movie, so I suggest you do that before watching this movie.)

As the storm went on, she connects with how her ancestors got her to the point she is today.

I would rate this movie a 9/10 because I think it ties in nicely with the original Lion King movies while adding more to the story. There is some violence, so I think no one under the age of 7-8 should watch this without parental guidance.
